Eco Design bikes

      The Atwood            The Belleville

Inspired by the okala method, trek designers set out to create the internal standards that would serve as the architecture for creating a Eco Design product. Mirroring Cradle to Cradle or the Okala method in examination of the entire lifecycle, a product must meet a certain amount of criteria before it is given the Eco design distinction. This will help to ensure the intergrity of the Eco Design line as well as offer transparency as to what the process is.  The Bikes have steel frame (to extract steel from the earth is far less impactful than other metals), eco saddle and grips.  Tires are made from 100% natural rubber that is certified sustainable harvested. The bike is designed for Disassembly so that at its end of life it can be 100% recycled and there are no toxins are in any of the materials.

The Six-Day Bicycle Races
book

America's Jazz-Age Sport
Peter Joffre Nye, with Jeff Groman and Mark Tyson

A highly pictorial account of an almost forgotten sport. During the period from 1890 until 1935, six-day bicycle racing was America's most popular spectator sport.

This book succeeds in capturing the drama and excitement of this nearly forgotten sport.

It's a Winner
The Six-Day Bicycle Races was awarded top honors in the USA Book News Best Books 2006 contest in the category Sports, General. We're as proud of the award as we are of the book itself.
